Our Process

Site Analysis

To get a feel for your existing landscape, we will meet you on-site to take inventory of your current space. Depending on your project’s design option – comprehensive or virtual – this can be done by the designer or by the homeowner.

Concepts

There is always more than one design solution to achieve the goals for your outdoor space. To get us closer to your ideal design, we will create & email 3 hand-drawn concepts to choose from.

Preliminary

From your concept feedback, we will create a detailed plan that has specific information about plants, materials, and featured elements. Reviewed together in a virtual format we will discuss any changes you would like to see.

Final Plan

This plan serves as a guide and what your install contractor needs in order to provide a quote, install your project, and make the design come to life! Depending on your project scope, this final plan may also include 3D renderings and a lighting plan.

Comprehensive

The most “hands-on” approach in our landscape design options. The Helios team will come to your site and take measurements while getting to know you and any specifics required of your project.

Best for: Someone that may already have an established yard, feels more comfortable meeting in person, and has specific needs that may require multiple site visits.

Lighting Plan

Bring the nightlife to your landscape by adding a lighting plan to your design. We call out everything you need to transform your design.

Best for: Someone that has a patio that is meant to be enjoyed at night, or perhaps wants that nighttime curb appeal.

Hire us to work collaboratively with local installers & suppliers. This could include picking out boulders & plants as well as laying out the overall design with the installer. 

Best for: Someone that doesn’t have time to oversee installation, choose plants, or wants to make sure the design goes into the ground as intended.

No, we do not.

We have a trusted list of install professionals we recommend working with. As an optional add-on service, you can hire us to work collaboratively with local suppliers, installers & maintenance companies to oversee your installation.

Design management is billed at our hourly rate.

By keeping an eye on installation, we'll make sure the design goes into the ground as intended. Other design management might include working with the landscape installer to pick out boulders, plants, and layout the overall design. Design management is billed at our hourly rate.

No, we do not. We have a trusted list of maintenance professionals we recommend working with to keep your yard looking fresh!

How much is a typical landscape plan?

The minimum investment of a full landscape plan starts at $1750. This will highly depend on the scope of work. We will quote your specific project after our complimentary initial consultation.

How do I know I’m going to like the design?

At Helios, we start by getting a feel for your lifestyle, aesthetics, green-thumb abilities, etc to make sure your new space will meet your needs.

We create 3 hand-drawn concepts to narrow in on your style and the feel we want for the space. That will guide our preliminary plan where plants and materials are specifically called out. From there we'll revise the plan and work collaboratively to finalize the design of your dreams.

Can I install the designs in phases?

Yes! The intention of the design is to create a vision of your “dream" outdoor space. Sometimes this needs to happen in phases! We can advise on what should logistically be done first based on timing and budget.

Can I DIY some of the plans?

Sure! However, we recommend getting the infrastructure of your yard done by a professional and you can do some of the other minor improvements yourself.

If you are a gardener and love planting, you’ll be able to use our plant schedule as a shopping list + guide to know what goes where. 

How soon can you start?

We are normally booked a few months in advance – it really depends on the season & how busy we are!

How long does the process take?

The full design process generally takes between 6-8 weeks.

This highly depends on the timeliness of client feedback, weather, and the overall scope of the project.
