Solutions
» To work with mature trees and the existing courtyard to make a sitting area
- We experimented with a couple of small flagstone patios but ultimately settled on a concept that included an innovative circular deck around one of their existing shade trees
- This preserved the roots of the tree and minimized the impact of construction while also, giving them a wonderful shady reprieve
» To find a space for a vegetable garden
- We sought out the sunniest spots for the vegetable garden & the remaining turf
» To convert the grass to more colorful shade tolerant plantings
- Chose a soft pink/purple/white color palette for the perennials
